Abstract: Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and Major Depression (MD) are two of the most common psychiatric disorders among the modern age population, and the comorbidity of the two diseases is higher than widely expected. (Galaif, E. R., 2007) With the topic “The Association of Alcohol Abuse and/or Dependence and Major Depression for Adults by Sex”, this data survey aims to examine the co-occurring conditions between AUD and MD from a statistical perspective. This survey used data from the first wave of the National Epidemiologic Study of Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC) and concludes a significant positive association between the odds of alcohol abuse/dependence diagnosis and MD diagnosis. This result aligns with the hypothesis and the conclusion of previous studies.
