Abstract: Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that primarily affects reading and language processing, which impacts 17% to 21% of students (Herrera-Araujo, 2017). Students with dyslexia often experience difficulties with math and reading comprehension. Dyslexia is also a genetic and lifelong condition that affects brain development, which connects to mental disorders like anxiety, depression, and ADHD(Moll, 2022). Students with dyslexia from lower-income families often lack access to the same resources available to those from higher-income families (Romeo, 2022). My study aims to investigate the association between reading and math proficiency and whether it will impact future adult income. By using the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescents to Adult Health (Add Health), with Wave 1 representing over 20,745 adolescents who were in grades 7-12 during the 1994-9 school year. And Wave 5, conducted during 2016-18, both of which have a collection of rich demographic, social, familial, behavioral, psychosocial, cognitive, and health survey data from participants and their parents.
