Abstract: The goal of this study was to test whether family history of depression increases antidepressant medication use and whether supplemental income changes this relationship. Data was pulled from a sample of the NESARC Wave 1 (2015), with 8786 individuals. People with a family history were more likely to use antidepressants. Those receiving supplemental income were less likely to use medication, even with family history. In all, family history influences antidepressant use, but socioeconomic factors can shape treatment access and behavior.
