Abstract: Analyzed here is the association between support of controversial opinions in books being expressed and what those controversial opinions are, with additional analysis into how race and degree of education may affect individual’s choices. Data shows an association between opinion being expressed and support of that opinion being suppressed, based on the five different opinions being expressed in the data. When controlling for race, there is still significant association for anti-black, anti-religion, and the pro-military dictatorship opinions affecting individual’s decisions to support those opinions. When controlling for education level, there is no longer significant association between pro-homosexuality and whether or not this opinion should be expressed. These findings are important to explore the future of freedom of speech and how individual’s opinions may change on the matter.
