Abstract: This study examines whether age has an effect on beliefs about human-caused climate change within Catholic and Protestant populations, addressing a gap in research on within religion variation. Using data from the 2017 National Survey on Energy and the Environment (NSEE), the analysis examines Protestant and Catholic responses and compares age groups to a binary climate change threat measure. Chi-squared tests reveal no significant relationship between age and climate beliefs among either Protestants or Catholics. Regression models controlling for religion confirm that age does not significantly predict climate change beliefs, with all age coefficients negative but statistically insignificant. These findings indicate that there is little association between age and climate beliefs within religious groups, although this study is only limited to two religions.
