Abstract: As laws and social attitudes about cannabis change, its use among young adults has increased to 43% as of 2021 (NIH, 2022). Similarly, anxiety rates among young adults are at 15.1%, much higher than the 2.6% rate of those over 60 years old (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, 2025). As adolescents engage in this substance use, perhaps to self medicate their increased anxiety, it is vital to examine the relationship between the two. Further, it is important to examine the effect of changing laws and attitudes about cannabis use on new populations.
